Pagey - Turn it in, it's clear that this kid doesn't even have the basics as a starting point, regardless of who is standing on the touchline. But I agree that it's even harder to make it as a forward at the top level.

Re: Mubama
I would say my biggest concern in the cameos I've seen from Mubama currently is I don't see him using his physical attributes well enough.

He's a pretty big lump, quick and strong. Defenders should be nervous about dawdling on the ball with him around. He should be using his stature and being a bit physical with his opponents, as well as getting all those arms and legs between the defender and the ball when it's played into him.

Basically he needs to make the defenders life harder, and that's more understanding/application of his skill set rather than him doing something magical.

Too often I seem him running around a bit aimlessly and expending energy in non-valuable ways.

He's only 18 and maybe that understanding will come, and of course the level is faster than anything he'll ever have played, but understanding the position and his own strengths within it should come pretty early in the piece, and at the moment I just don't see him getting the most out of the physical strengths he clearly has.

Just basic stuff like 'get your body between the man and the ball', 'block off the passing lanes between players with your pace to intercept', 'backing into the defender', or 'pulling off onto the weaker defenders and not being easily challenged by the stronger ones'. These are all easy things to do if a player has been taught the game properly and the position they're playing. I don't see enough "football intelligence" from Mubama currently.

It’s ridiculous and deluded of me to think that you wouldn’t pipe up immediately like you always do. So dull. Really really dull.

Re: Mubama
It's ridiculous and deluded to expect a 19 year old with years of professional coaching at a Premier League club, to be able to competently control a football and show signs of at least being able to do the basics well?

Blimey.

Re: Mubama
There’s usually a ridiculous and deluded expectation that any youngster who gets a chance will hit the ground running. A striker especially, as it’s their job to score goals. If they don’t, it stands out.

We’ve had Haller and Scamacca in recent years, who both didn’t work out for whatever reason, yet people think Mubama will come in, score goals and hit the ground running. It’s not going to happen.

When he doesn’t play well or score, people get on his case, his confidence will drop and he won’t improve. It’s the Premier League. There needs to be some sort of realism involved along with patience. He’d probably be better off on loan, playing regular football.

Re: Mubama
I have never seen another team take so long to sub a player in.

What the ferk does he need to tell them; they warm up to come on in the 60th minute they didn't get on the pitch till the 80th minute.

Surely Nolan can show them his holiday snaps at half time.

zico 3:35 Tue Jan 9
Re: Mubama
You have to remember that before players enter the pitch Nolan is standing there with his bloody Ipad telling them what to do and where to go, so the players performance on the pitch without a doubt at the very least partially down to the management team. Personally I think football is a relatively simple game made complicated by some managers and coaches.

Twoleftfeet. Because moyes is the root cause behind most of the problems?

You're wondering why topics to do with the current West Ham team become about the manager who buys, picks and sets up the current West Ham team?

You fucking plank.

Why does every thread on this site become anti Moyes?

I’m surprised he hasn’t been blamed for the war in the Ukraine by the Tena ladies on here.

Re: Mubama
Cottee and Defoe would struggle playing on their own in a Moyes team as a solo striker. It's not like Mubama has been missing loads of chances. He was chasing about early on but it must be disheartening when you look behind and see Soucek 30 yards away. I don't think he is the answer but at 19 or so you would have to be a bit spacial to be the focal point in this team at that age and I think he can improve but that's down to the coaching.

Academy of Football is dying a death at our club. Players like Cottee would stand no chance with todays West Ham manager. That’s the word you are looking for…..

Re: Mubama
Reading some of the comments about a kid who’s learning the game and is now labelled as shit amazes me. I thought it would be one or two but most posts are on a negative about a kid who’s gone from playing in an attacking youth set up to counter attack football and normally without Paq, Bowen and Kudus around him. I really hope he doesn’t read this shite. He needs a loan to build him up as a player and then see if he has it, not the way Moyes is doing it by throwing him to the Wolves.

I thought he grew into the game a bit yesterday.

Re: Mubama
i didn't think he was that good yesterday and wished he did a Bowen and really chase the last defender down but when Bowen does it there are others a bit further up to help. However when he was chasing the 2 last defenders and keeper the rest of the team weren't even in their half. Even Bowen wasn't helping.I actually thought Bowen didn't help him in anyway and had a poor game after his goal.
I've seen Mubama make a difference when he's played in the Europa or the Burnley game.
People bang on about Ferguson being so much better but he has been supported in every way possible. Mubama and every other youth product inc Johnson who Moyes seems to take his anger out and know one else.
until we get rid of the main problem in all this,MOYES, I can't see any youth players getting a decent chance.

Marshall is a better prospect granted.
I would like to see Marshall and Mubama alongside Bowen.
I'm sure both would benefit.

Re: Mubama
Being a central striker in a side managed by David Moyes must be one of the most difficult jobs on the planet, so I sympathise with Mubama. But sadly I have to agree with the majority on here - doesn't look like he's going to be good enough.
I am more hopeful for Marshall. He has different qualities and I can see him developing into a goalscoring wide forward, similar in some ways to Bowen. He shouldn't be considered as an either/or option with Mubama - they are very different kinds of players. Given our problems with a wide left forward, I really think Marshall should be getting in and around the squad for that position, especially if Benny and/or Fornals are off. After all, at the very least I don't believe that he could be as bad as either of them.

Re: Mubama
Part of me says, he's only 19.

But then again, so is Evan Ferguson and he's miles behind him in terms of development.

North Bank 6:33 Mon Jan 8
Re: Mubama
Lee last season as an 18 year he bagged a goal a game in the 18 year old leaue and FA Youth Cup, in PL2 where the age is up to 21, he bagged 13 goals in 20 games and although 18 to 21 doesn't seem a chasm in age it is in their physique and development.

I don't think we can judge him in an ultra defensive team, that has little idea when playing & creating in the last third

Manuel 6:25 Mon Jan 8
Re: Mubama
No I agree, but I can't see him walking for free somehow, think both parties have put too much work in to have that conclusion. My hunch is he will sign and be loaned out, could be wrong though.

Lee Trundle 6:23 Mon Jan 8
Re: Mubama
We've offered him a contract. He's the one who turned us down.

I'd love for him to come good, given how much I've called for him to play. I've just not seen anything from his limited appearances that suggest he will.

Manuel 6:17 Mon Jan 8
Re: Mubama
LT - I doubt he will be a youngster that we just say right son your contract is up so sorry but off you pop. He has progressed more than the average youngster does and could still be useful in and around the squad and could improve, then there is the possibility of a new manager arriving. As long as he's not too greedy I think we will make him an offer if we haven't already, which I think we have.
